Stories
Why Do We Tell Stories?
Stories bring honor and glory to Jesus Christ.
God is at work all around us and we can give him praise when we highlight all that He is up to. We do everything we can to let the church and the rest of the world in on the great things God is accomplishing, which deepens our worship of him through that knowledge.
Stories encourage the saints.
As our eyes are opened to what God is doing around us, we are encouraged to take our eyes off ourselves and put our focus on God and His work. We are encouraged to press on in the midst of disheartening circumstances, suffering and trials and daily discouragements. We are given the gift of hope as we remember the God we serve, the One who keeps His promises and is fulfilling His redemption story right in our midst.
Stories exhort our people to action.
Stories can be used to move in the hearts and actions of our body of believers as the Holy Spirit works in them to give them courage to embrace mission, step out in faith, and to believe God can use them. Stories remind us that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things.
It's that time of the year where we begin seeing precious pictures of dads and their daughters going out on a date together. You know the ones I'm talking about... the daughter is wearing her finest dress, holding the rose her dad gave her and smiling like a princess. There's just nothing...

It’s a new year and we all have new goals concerning our spiritual disciplines. Whether they are lofty goals or perhaps more manageable ones, it’s important to consider which disciplines we prioritize and whether we are giving Scripture memory its rightful place within those goals...
Halloween is a distant memory, but consider what a strange holiday it really is. Everyone dresses up in costumes, grabs a bag, and walks up to random houses demanding candy (in a polite tone, of course). It seems normal to us because it’s all we’ve ever known.
One thing I notice on...
With Thanksgiving approaching, we find ourselves bombarded with tedious tasks and heavy pressures to get everything done. Thanksgiving comes around every year and yet we still fall into the same unhealthy busyness that tends to restrict us from looking up and seeing what opportunities God has...
What is Advent? It comes from the Latin Word meaning “coming” or “arrival.” Advent is the celebration of Jesus’ first coming and the hope of His second coming. It’s a celebratory season where we reflect, remember and rejoice in the promises and...
Disciple-making is one of the core values at New Life, reflected in the Church Covenant, “We will strive to make true disciples of Christ beginning in our homes and spheres of influence by sharing the message of reconciliation entrusted to us whenever and wherever God gives...
Election Day is tomorrow. Many of you have probably cast your votes, but many others are still pondering whether to vote at all - and if you do, for whom you will vote. I understand that dilemma.
What is generally a crazy and chaotic time of year has taken many strange and disappointing turns...
Chris and Christan Harkey are faithful members of New Life, core members of their life group, and parents to two girls, Alaina and Emma, and one boy, Elias (Eli). Their lives today are characterized by love for each other, their children, New Life, and most of all, their faithful God.
